INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS

To maximally exploit the potential of the medical genome research and the deduced research areas for the knowledge and innovation of diagnostics and therapies for the major diseases, it takes close cooperation among various experts, how it is provided by the NGFN. In international large-scale projects the networking between researchers of the NGFN and different countries is stabilized in order to achieve a comprehensive consolidation of knowledge and resources for the generation of synergies and use the obtaining results to combat diseases. For this reason the BMBF is funding the international networking of research activities.

The implementation of new sequencing technologies allows a detailed characterization of the genome of single individuals. Using those technologies, the genomes of about 1000 people will be sequenced within the international 1000 Genomes Project in order to provide a detailed catalogue of human genetic variations. more
