The success of the Network Cancer genes was supported particularly by the establishment of an efficient infrastructure for the coordination of all sub-projects. The close linkage of the sub-projects required a competent communication platform to monitor the achievement of sub-goals to the predetermined times. With the help of the Coordination Office regular project meetings and telephone conferences were organized to allow a permanent scientific discussion and strategic planning. The establishment of a web-based project platform also enabled an exchange of study data as well as reagents and materials. During the project period the Coordination had a decisive influence on translational research of the project. First research results were already translated into the clinics, which was only possible due to the intense communication in the Network Genomic Medicine (NGM) at the Centre for Integrated Oncology (CIO Cologne - Bonn) and with the Lead Discovery Center (LDC). Through close collaboration, the genetic data achieved within the project could be used as a basis for clinical routine diagnosis and personalized treatment of patients.
