NGFN-PLUS

RNomics of bacterial infections (a)

Coordinator:    Prof. Dr. Jörg Vogel
Institution: Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg
Homepage: www.imib-wuerzburg.de
The aim of subproject II is the identification and functional analysis of host and bacterial ncRNAs differentially transcribed upon infection with four highly relevant bacterial pathogens, i.e. Salmonella and Helicobacter. Differentially expressed ncRNAs from infected cultured cells and animal tissues will be identified and quantified by ultra-high parallel sequence analysis. Candidate ncRNAs with promising functions in bacterial virulence will be disturbed in cultured cells and animals, and the outcome for the infection will be monitored. Subproject II is firmly connected to the IG RNomics of Infectious Diseases since (i) ultra-high parallel sequencing is used for the unbiased identification of infection-relevant ncRNAs of host and pathogen and (ii) their potential as targets for new antibacterial therapy will be evaluated.
