The aim of the subproject TP3 "Cytogenetic and molecular genetic characterization of translocation breakpoints" is to identify genes relevant for development and progression of prostate cancer through cytogenetic and molecular characterization of translocation breakpoints
The characterization of the genes involved in the translocations by cloning the breakpoint regions will enable the establishment of assays for the detection of these aberrations that can be applied in the diagnostic laboratories. Therefore, the developed assays will be validated by analyzing a large number of prostate cancer patients. Moreover, these results will be uselful to assess the clinical impact of alterations of the identified genes.

In addition, this subproject aims to develop primary cell lines from prostate cancer biopsies. The successful establishment of new cell lines is of special interest because there are only few available prostate cancer cell lines.
